private instruction

I am currently available to teach lessons both in person and online via Zoom.   I provide detailed and customized instruction on drumset, timpani, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone and snare drum.

My teaching philosophy is centered around working with each student's unique technical and musical needs, varying materials and course of study to suit their interests and deficiencies, instead of placing them into a preset series of method books and exercises.  

I have been teaching professionally for over 20 years and provide instruction on both drumset and classical percussion for students at all levels, ages 9 to adult.  I have a BA in classical percussion performance from Western Michigan University and a MA in jazz studies performance from DePaul.  I am currently the jazz drum set instructor at the Merit School of Music. 

My teaching studio is located in West Rogers Park.  I am equally comfortable teaching drum set and percussion, and have a full complement of instruments at my studio, including three drum sets, a five octave marimba, xylophone, vibraphone and timpani.  

Rates are $45/half hour, $90/hour.
